Pray for Success in your Business

We should always be in an attitude of prayer as believers. Prayer is what gets us through every situation. Want to be more tactful and diplomatic? Pray about it. Want to be more open to change? Pray about it! As business owners, the desire to pray should be intensified, as our success is dependent on God.

So, what exactly should you pray for as a business owner? The main ingredients of your prayer in any situation will be the same. You pray to God in faith, believing for your request, but open to God’s superior wisdom in answering your prayer.

Here are 3 things that every business owner should be praying for as it relates to their business growth and overall success.

1.     Pray for proper stewardship.

Everything that you have belongs to God. This includes your business. Sure, it’s your name on the paperwork, and you show up every day to get it done, but everything you need to operate that business comes from God. Your business is one of His gifts to you, which means that you need to exercise proper stewardship over it. After God created Adam and Eve, He gave them responsibilities, aka, a job.

Genesis 1: 28 says, “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

The money you put into your business, the people you work with, and the people you work for are all included in your list of responsibilities. It is easy to get distracted while working on one part of the business and end up neglecting another part. It’s also very likely that while trying to be successful, you may wind up neglecting yourself.

When you pray, ask God to help you manage your time and resources properly.

2.     Pray for an understanding of failure and success.

The world’s definition of failure is very comparative in nature. Your success is based on your performance in comparison to your competitors. Progress is given little value in a fast-paced marketplace. This is too bad, as steady progress over time is a solid foundation for applying wisdom. When you pray, ask God to reveal to you His monthly key performance indicators (KPIs). Invite God to be the board chairman of your company and set the goals and targets you need to reach.

You will sometimes find that the things God wants you to focus on are way off compared to what you want to focus on and what everyone else is prioritizing. However, we are limited in our view of the world, and God is not. Proverbs 14:12 warns us that “there is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

It is better to take your lead from God, who has never failed at anything, than to pattern your blueprint of success off the world. The strategies may appear to be on point in your eyes, but in the end, if it is outside of God’s will for you and your business, it will result in lack of success.

3.     Pray for wisdom and discernment.

Throughout your career, you will be presented with multiple opportunities. Some will be a lot more appealing than others, for sure, but even then, you still need to seek out wisdom and discernment. When you pray, ask God to help you to rightly evaluate people and opportunities. Ask the Lord for guidance before going into partnerships, seeking funding, taking on clients, hiring staff, and so on. Ask God to help you rise to a level of understanding of your craft and in your field that sets you apart.

This is what God intended for His children. In Deuteronomy 28:13, we are told that “…the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath, if thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them.”

God is very interested in every area of your life, including your financial success. When you pursue business ownership, you can rest in the knowledge that you are not alone. Pray over your business and do so often. Do it constantly. “Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17.
